James Wilburn Caldwell went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the age of 93. The son of William Cecil and Josie Irene (Wells) Caldwell, James was born August 11, 1923 in Wilburton, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, James honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 12 years. He bravely and courageously fought during World War II and the Korean Conflict on Destroyers. After his service in the military, James worked as a Control Data clerk for 18 years and as tool and dye machinist for 43 years. In 1966, he married his sweetheart, Wilma June Gentry and together shared nearly 20 years of marriage before her passing in 1985. James and Wilma were members of Southern Hills Baptist Church during their marriage and enjoyed worshipping and fellowshipping there for many years. After Wilma’s passing, James met Anna “Bea” Coats, who became his companion and eventually, his caretaker, until she moved to Kansas, to be close to her daughter, Sharon. Together, James and Bea joined and became long time members of Eastlake Cumberland Presbyterian Church. James and Bea were also known as “adopted grandparents” to Samantha, whom they babysat for many years while her mother worked. They included Samantha in everything they did. His minister, Reverend Leslie Johnson, will always remember James having a great sense of humor, a wonderful attitude and a beautiful smile. In his spare time, James enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and gambling. An avid bowler, James has bowled a perfect game. He will be deeply missed.
