Lloyd A. Gramling was born October 20, 1928 to G.W. and Olive (Crabtree) Gramling. He passed from this life on June 30, 2018, leaving the land of the dying to go to the land of the living. Lloyd was a lifelong Oklahoman, growing up in Duke, OK during the dust bowl where he was valedictorian and an outstanding athlete. He made the All-State baseball team and had a scholarship offer to play basketball for coach Hank Iba at OSU. Instead, Lloyd moved to Oklahoma City to help his father run the family’s grocery store located on S.W. 7th street. During this time he was drafted into the army and served 9 months in Korea with the 45th infantry, surviving a bout of hemorrhagic fever. After returning Lloyd met the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) Ray. They were married for 63 years. In 1953 Lloyd joined the Oklahoma City Police Department, serving 32 years and rising to the rank of Chief before retiring in 1985. After retirement Lloyd moved to Newcastle to live near his brother Leo, sons, and grandchildren and became involved in city government, serving as councilman and mayor of Newcastle. After his time as mayor he continued to serve on local community boards and charitable organizations. Lloyd was also very involved in church, handling weekly announcements and diligently serving as an elder for many years. Lloyd was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and although Lloyd was a very humble man his family cannot overstate their pride in the full life he lived. He embodies the spirit of Oklahoma, from humble beginnings plowing leased land behind a horse to managing over 1,000 employees and shaking the hand of two sitting presidents of the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Leo and Larry, and his sister Wilma (Flatt). He is survived by his wife Pat; sons, Mike and wife Audrey, David and wife Cathy; grandchildren, Jay, Joshua, Laura, Sam, Jeff, and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Carter, Olivia, Evelyn, Sadie, Max, Asher, Elliot, Aiden, Samson, Joslynn, Colton, Scotlyn, and Collins.
