Dennis Lee Grigsby of Newcastle passed away on September 3, 2018 at the young age of 70 after a brief battle with cancer. Dennis was born July 9, 1948 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City to Gene and Leta Grigsby. Dennis grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from U.S. Grant High School in 1966. He attended the University of Oklahoma and Central State College.

Dennis worked along with his parents and sister Darlene in the family cleaners, Gene's Cleaners. During that time he also played drums and sang in numerous rock bands. He began his musical career as drummer and singer for "The Sprints", The Candy Men" and "The Royal Beats". He soon discovered his real talent was as a lead vocalist and front man. He was lead singer for "The Orfuns", "Fair Weather Forecast" (which was the opening act for Steppenwolf at the Civic Center), "Smokey Joe", "Counter Point", "Strider" and "Stryder". His most popular group was formed in 1982 "The Blades". "The Blades" were sponsored by Coors. "The Blades" had an original song played on KATT radio "Fire and Ice". They were also the opening act for numerous popular recording artist of the 80's. His next group was "The Dennis Grigsby Band". This group had an award winning video with their original "Yes Dear". Dennis' last and final band is "Built for Speed". This group lent their musical talents to putting on numerous benefits for charitable causes.

In most recent years they have raised funds for Sister BJ's Pantry. Dennis was also employed by Audio Associates and later started his own company in 1992 with John Ford, Little Orchard Sound, which provided audio, lights and video for the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum as well as installing sound systems in schools, churches and larger venues.

Dennis is survived by his two sons Eric Eugene Grigsby of Newcastle and Shawn Christopher Grigsby (Mandy) of Moore, his beloved grandson Evin Lee Grigsby, two sisters Darlene Rosebrook of Newcastle and Deanna Reed (Bob) of Poteau. He was also loved dearly by
numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family as well as many friends, his girlfriend,
Jimmie Clark and ex-wife of 43 years Jo Stewart.
