Obituary for Katherine "Lucille" Greenlee

Katherine Lucille Greenlee passed from this life Monday, December 3, 2018 at the age of 96. She was born on Sept 4, 1922 in Gotebo, Oklahoma to her parents, David Hobart and Nellie Cecile (Smith) Pierce. She grew up in Gotebo, Oklahoma along with her parents and two sisters, Lena Mae and Faye until the age of 18 After graduating from Gotebo High School in 1939, Lucille attended college at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha for one year and then Central State College for one semester until 1941 when she married LaVern Greenlee at the age of 18. They had 50 happy years of marriage until his death in 1991. They moved to Van Neys, California in 1941 and then returned to Gotebo for a brief time until they moved to Wichita, Kansas where she worked for Southwestern Bell until LaVern left for the Coast Guard. Over the next couple of years she joined him in Palm Beach, Florida and New London, Connecticut before returning to Gotebo where their first daughter, Linda, was born in 1945. Lucille taught school in Gotebo and gave piano lessons to young students, including her daughter. LaVern and Lucille lived in Gotebo until 1955 when the family moved to Duncan, Oklahoma. Lucille worked for Halliburton in the Accounts Payable Department before joining Universal Fidelity Life Insurance Company in 1958 as Secretary to the President and later became an officer of the company. She retired in 1988. In 1962, their second daughter, Lisa was born and Lucille and LaVern enjoyed raising a “second family” into their late 50s. After the death of her husband, Lucille moved to Oklahoma City in 1995 to be close to her daughters. She loved to cook for her family and fixed lunch for whoever could be there every Wednesday for several years until she moved to a retirement community in South Oklahoma City in 2008. She loved trying out new restaurants and traveling with her family when she could. Lucille resided at Lyndale Retirement Community until her death where she loved to play bingo. Lucille was a member of Britton Christian Church and a huge fan of OU Football and the OKC Thunder. She will be remembered by her family as a loving, Christian Mother and Grandmother who was wonderful example of humility and forgiveness and a perfect role model for her children.

She is survived by her:
Daughter, Linda Farmer and her husband, Gary of Edmond, Oklahoma;
Daughter, Lisa Cephus of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;
Three grandchildren: John Gilbert and his wife, Sue of Flower Mound, Texas; Jason Gilbert of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Amanda Bridges of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;
6 great grandchildren:
3 great great grandchildren;
And several nieces and nephews.
