Obituary for David Bryant Carmichael

Services will be Saturday January 26th at 1:00 PM at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City. Dave was a long- time member and served in numerous lay leadership roles until his death.

Memorials may be made to Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73142 designated to Missions Ministries.

Dave was born May 24, 1939. He departed this life on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 while doing what he loved - playing golf.

Dave was a graduate of Druid Hills High School in Atlanta. He attended several universities, earning a BBA from the University of North Texas and an MBA from Oklahoma City University. He completed a PHD in Adult and Higher Education at the University of Oklahoma in 1994. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

Dave began a 32- year career with FAA in 1962, starting as an air traffic controller in Miami, Fl. He retired from FAA in 1994 as Deputy Director of the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center. While at FAA, he entered a career development program that took him to the Alaskan and Southwest Regions as Personnel Officer. He was Manager of the FAA Logistics Center in Oklahoma City prior to becoming the Deputy Director.

After retiring from FAA, Dave began a career in academia with Oklahoma City University that spanned from 1994 to 2007. He retired as Dean of the Meinders School of Business in 1999 and moved to Professor of Management and Organizational Behavior, a job he loved.

His civic activities included member of the Governor’s Task Force on Aviation Education, Leadership Oklahoma Class II, South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, trustee at Hillcrest Health Center, and South Oklahoma City Rotary Club, and the Oklahoma City Business Ethics Consortium.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marge; son Eric and wife Trisha Becker and granddaughter Gabrielle Carmichael of St Louis, MO; and daughter-in-law Trisha Carmichael of Phoenix, AZ. He was predeceased by his son David, Jr.
