James "Wayne" Johnson went to be with his Lord on January 29, 2019. Wayne was born in February 23, 1925 in Stroud, Oklahoma to Jim and Viola (Thompson) Johnson. Wayne and his brothers Wilford & Bill and sister Eva were raised in Stroud and later in Walters, OK. Wayne graduated from Walters High School in 1943 and shortly after graduating served his country as a Merchant Marine during WWII. Upon his return from the war he met and courted a girl that would turn out to be the love of his life, Ms. Velma Dean "Deanie" Moore. The two married on March 28, 1947 and were blessed with two sons, Ron and Charles. Wayne and his family were very active members at Walters First United Methodist Church and he served in many capacities at the church. Wayne was affiliated with the Lions Club, was an assistant Boy Scout Troop Leader, and also coached youth football in Walters. He was well respected in the community and had a servant’s heart. He loved his family dearly and worked hard to support them. Wayne worked for Cotton Electric Co-Op and wore many hats during his time there but his main duty was managing the business office. He made many fond memories and lasting friendships during his time there. Aside from work Wayne would always rather be fishing. Anyone who knew Wayne had probably gone fishing with him at some point. He loved being out on the water and enjoyed sharing that time with the people he cared about. Wayne’s presence will be missed but his spirit will never be forgotten.
