Obituary for David F. McElhaney

David Franklin McElhaney went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the age of 74.. David was born on June 16, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ray and Ruth (Duncan) McElhaney. David was raised in Norman with his brothers, Duncan and Crockett. David graduated from Norman High School in 1963 and for a short time attended classes at OU and OSU. Shortly after that time David enlisted in the US Air Force and was soon to be deployed to Vietnam. While still in OKC on a fateful night in 1964 David met the love of his life, Carol Jean Bickers at a drive in diner. Although they didn’t hit it off immediately a turn of events would place them together and that’s how they stayed for over 50 years. David served his country for 4 years during the Vietnam War and when he was given the opportunity to re-enlist he swiftly declined so that he could marry his love, Carol. The two were wed in OKC at Tinker Air Force Base on October 19, 1968. He held a number of jobs after the war but eventually got hired on with the US Postal Service and worked for the USPS for over 27 years. His hard work helped support his wife and three children whom he loved dearly. After his retirement from the postal service, David decided to take a job working for Mustang Public Schools. He was proud of his work and enjoyed helping others. David and his family have been faithful members at Mustang Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for over 28 years. He sang in the Church Choir, was a Church Elder, former youth minister at the church and also dressed as the Church Santa during the Christmas Holiday for the past 10 years. David was also active with the Kiwanis of Mustang for nearly 20 years and made so many lasting friendships during his time with the organization. David was a steward for APW (American Postal Workers Union) and also worked with the Mustang Youth League as a Football and Baseball Coach. David liked to stay busy and active but he was never too busy for his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and made sure his family knew how much he cared about them. David was also a great friend and his bright smile and contagious laughter will be missed by everyone in his circle.

brothers, Duncan McElhaney and Ray Crockett McElhaney.
He is survived by
his loving wife, Carol;
Daughter, Kualine Rosales & husband Darrell;
son, Mark McElhaney & wife Barbara;
son, Ray McElhaney & wife Jillian;
10 Grandchildren;
and a host of extended loving family and close friends.
