Visitation will be at Vondel Smith Mortuary at South Lakes from 4-8 PM Monday & Tuesday, with the family available to greet friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday June 26, 2019, at Christ the King Catholic Church (8005 Dorset Dr. OKC, OK 73120) with burial following at Resthaven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that friends make donations to Christ the King Catholic School, or Bishop McGuinness High School in Tiger’s honor.

It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Terrance “Tiger” McDermott announces his passing. Tiger was born on December 17, 1957 in Oklahoma City, to Dr. Edward J. “Mac” & Mary (Sullivan) McDermott. Tiger grew up on the south side of OKC, and spent the majority of high school at U.S. Grant, where he was the senior quarterback, later graduating from Moore High School in 1976. Tiger was a star athlete during high school lettering in football and baseball. After high school graduation he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University Oklahoma, and achieved his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University. He practiced medicine with his father at the McDermott Clinic, and continued the practice after his fathers passing. In 1998 he married the love of his life Fran Vela, and the two started their family. He loved playing golf, and was a devout OU, Notre Dame, Boston Red Sox, and Patriots Fan. Although he had a great joy for sports, his most precious moments were spent with his family and his friends. He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. Tiger was preceded in death by his parents; his In-Laws Refugio & Olga Vela & brother-in-law Ronald Vela. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Fran McDermott; daughter Erin Elizabeth; son Connor Lavelle; step-father Les Sullivan; brother-in-law Edward Vela; step-brother, Mike Sullivan & wife Debbie; step-sisters: Brenda Sullivan; Leslie & Greg Bollinger; close friends Chris, JoeBob, & Kyle, as well as many other extended family members & dear friends.

I am so sorry for the family’s loss. Death is one of the hardest trials to cope with. May you find comfort from the future promise recorded in Isaiah 25:8 which says “he [God] will swallow up death forever.” We can be certain God will fulfill the words from his word the Bible.

Fran, Erin, extended family, and loved ones,

God be the glory for the life of Tiger McDermott!! Our beloved friend is in the presence of our Savior Christ Jesus surrounded by his loved ones who have passed through the Gates of Heaven before him.

We have known Tiger since he was a young kid living on S. Country Club living next to the Hamms. While he attended private school for much of his younger grades, he was that kid who hung out with Kyle Hamm.

When Jr. and High School years came, Tiger was a part of the sports scene and every day life at school. There are so many memories--playing pool until the wee hours of the morning; tee peeing; Catholic midnight mass (even though we weren't Catholic!); driving from McDonald's, Sonic, and A&W over and over again honking the US Grant cadence; and of course the football, basketball, and baseball games.

If you need a chuckle during this time of bereavement, hopefully you can get one from this picture of Joe Bob, Tiger, and Kyle from our Senior yearbook. Those three, along with some other of Senior boys such as Chris Box and Jimmy Browning, were a mess but in a good way!

If you knew Tiger, you knew Mac and Mary. Their house was the place to go and hang out. Mary the motherly listener, Doc who knew everything about sports and spoke with that heavy Boston accent, and Tiger, the gentle giant. Tiger could get embarrassed at the drop of a pin but had a genuine compassion for all. Most importantly, Tiger was a friend for life. Our graduating class has adopted the motto "Once a General, always a General"; to paraphrase in describing Tiger, you could truthfully say "Once a friend, always a friend."

Tiger was a patient yet persistent person. His patience paid off when he met and fell in love with his beloved Fran. Tiger was the last of our group to get married but he knew what he wanted and Fran was who he needed! God's gift to Tiger and Fran was the birth of their beautiful daughter, Erin, who plans to continue the legacy of her Grandmother Mary by serving others. Fran and Erin, Tiger was so proud of both of you and loved you both dearly.

Tiger, we will mourn along with your family the loss of your earthly presence but we know that you lived your life preparing for eternity.

God bless,
Joe Bob and Melody Wright
