Obituary for Bruce Roger Romick

Bruce R. Romick, Born January 1, 1922, on a Tama County Iowa farm, passed from this life on July 13, 2019, in Oklahoma City. He is survived by his sister Phyllis Zager, of Waterloo, Iowa; daughters Linda Lewis, Chandler, OK and Nancy Applebe, LaGrange, TX; grandsons Doug Kramer, Long Beach, CA, Billy Montgomery, Oklahoma City, OK and Ben Peacock, San Antonio, TX.
During his teen years, Bruce developed a strong interest in aviation, reading about flying and building model planes. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in May 1940, and graduated from airplane mechanic school in November, and he was assigned to Kelly Field, TX. During 1941, he learned of an enlisted pilot training program open to high school graduates and applied for it, graduating in September 1942. Bruce served 9 years in the Air Force, and received promotions to the rank of Captain.
From January 1952 to December of 1959, he was employed as a civilian instructor at an Air Force base in Malden, MO. Trainees included U.S. and students from European countries.
In January of 1960, he began working for the Federal Aviation Administration, and retired from there in May of 1982. In 1986, Bruce began work as a contract instructor at the FAA Academy, working there until February of 2000.
Over the years, he and his wife, Ellie, enjoyed travel in the US, Canada, Japan and Europe.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2019 in the Gathering Room at Concordia Life Care Community, 7707 W. Britton Rd. OKC, OK.
