Obituary for Robert "R.L." Collier

Robert Edward Lee Collier III "R.L." was born in Moody, Texas on September 20, 1929 to Quema Jenkins Collier and Robert Edward Lee Collier, II "(Lee)" and passed away on July 25, 2019, less than 2 months before his 90th birthday. As an infant R.L. hummed as he crawled and by the age of 5 years could be heard singing on the radio with his younger sister, Doris Fay. He was a gifted song-writer, singer, and guitarist whose music had been copywritten by 1947. He met his future wife, Maureen Bellamy, at an Oklahoma City radio station when he was singing and playing guitar and she her violin. They married in 1948 and moved to Dallas where they attended Dallas Theological Seminary. They traveled as a part of J.C. Hibbard's evangelical team until R.L. enlisted in the US Air Force. Having completed Chaplain School at Fort Slocum New York in 1952, R.L. received his Certificate of License to the Gospel Ministry in 1962 after taking seminary extension through Southern Baptist Seminaries in Jackson Mississippi. He served as the Air Force Base Chapel Administrator and informal music minister for 21 years in Yokota AFB Japan; Davis-Monthan AFB Tucson; Goosebay AFB Labrodor; Castle AFB Merced CA, Anderson AFB Guam, and Little Rock AFB. R.L. worked an additional 21 years as a eligibility specialist at the VA Hospital Oklahoma City after retirement from the USAF. R.L. and Maureen were members of both First Baptist Church Moore and Emmaus Baptist Church OKC. R.L. taught Greek and Hebrew until the age of 87. R.L. wrote both a commentary on the Gospel of John entitled Logos and a biography of his wife Maureen's grandmother entitled, Arkansas, My True Love... Story of an Arkansas Lady. R.L. was a humble servant of God. His joy for life and love for the Lord and his fellow man often overshadowed his unusual intelligence and incredible talent.

R.L. loved and was loved very dearly his wife, Maureen, his daughters, Cheryl and Dawn, his grandsons, sons-in-law and his great-grandchildren. He is survived and will be greatly missed by Maureen, daughters, Cheryl and Robert Giddens and Dawn and Michael Borelli, grandsons, Adam and Molly Giddens and Zach and Ashley Giddens, great-grandchildren, Liam, Brooks and Cora Giddens, brother Danny and wife Gail Collier, many nieces, nephews, and step-granddaughters, Tiffan and Ross Urken, Crystal Borelli and Brittany Borelli R.L. is preceded in death by his parents Quema and Lee Collier, sister Doris Fay Collier Simpson, brother Charles Dean Collier, and best friends Gene Mikesell and Harvey Holland.
