Obituary for Larry Rendall McManus

Larry McManus passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He was born on December 19, 1949 in Carnegie, Oklahoma. He was the third of four children to Elmer and Lois McManus. The Family Moved to Midwest City in 1951 where he attended Carl Albert High School. In high school Larry played football, wrestled, and most of all stared in baseball, his favorite sport. After he graduated in 1968 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country as a navigator on the USS Prairie, a Dixie Class Destroyer assigned to the west pacific during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on August 4, 1975.
After his time in the Navy, Larry first attended college at Oscar Rose and later received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma in Political Science. Following graduation he continued his education at the University of Oklahoma and in 1979 graduated from the University Of Oklahoma School Of Law with his Juris Doctorate. In 1982 Larry married Dianna Wisdom. In 1984 they welcomed there son Chad McManus. Larry practiced law in Oklahoma and retired from practicing full time law in the mid-1990s. After leaving full time law Larry went to work for the US Post office where he retired in 2016.
One of his greatest enjoyments was raising and racing quarter horses under the Circle M Partnership with his dad, brother, and nephew. Time spent with family traveling to and at the races was always a found memory for him.
Larry loved spending time at the lake fishing and visiting with family and friends. He was a passionate outdoorsman, with many great stories and memories of hunting trips and fishing expeditions with the ones he loved dearly. Time spent on Eufaula with his brother, sister in law, and nephews running jug lines, and catching a variety of fish were always high on his list of stories. Taking his son Chad hunting in the fall to deer camp or to the river to fish for catfish were always things that Larry made sure were a top priority because time spent with Chad never taken for granted.
As much as Larry enjoyed all of the time with family at the race track, hunting trips, fishing weekends, or cookouts he was most proud of being “Papa” to his “buddies”, as he affectionately called his grandsons. He was always excited and eager to talk about Carter and Barrett and what they were doing and was not shy about bragging to everyone about them. As much as “Papa” was excited, his “buddies” were just as excited if not more to spend time with their “Papa”. Everyone that knew Larry knew that they were the most precious things in his life.
Larry McManus is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lois McManus. He is survived by his son, Chad McManus his wife Kelsey, grandsons Carter and Barrett McManus of Yukon, OK; brother and sister in law, Johnny and Kaye McManus of Choctaw, OK; sister and brother in law Viola and Foster Kramer of Piedmont Ok; sister Melba Forney of Midwest City, OK; sister in law Peggy Wisdom of Edmond, OK; as well as all his many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families that Larry cared so deeply for.
