Obituary for Mrs. D. N. "Johnnie" Haynes

Pauline Dolores Haynes died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, January 11th, 2020. She is survived by her two sons, David and Rick Haynes, and their loving families. Pauline was a wonderful grandmother to her four grandchildren and adored by her six great-grandchildren. She was born as Pauline Dolores Hessel on January 19th, 1937, in Oklahoma City. Pauline is preceeded in death by her husband, Johnnie Haynes, her mother, father, two sisters, and three brothers.

Pauline married Johnnie on November 1st, 1952. Together they opened and operated Johnnie’s Charcoal Broiler, starting in 1971. Pauline was often referred to as “Mrs. Johnnie.” On any given day, she could be found holding court in her favorite booth at their Britton Road location. Pauline has played a pivotal role in making Johnnie’s an Oklahoma tradition.

When Pauline wasn’t at one of her restaurants, she was most likely found making the store rounds at North Park Mall. Building a connection with someone of any background was one of Pauline’s greatest attributes. She could sit and talk for hours at a time, be it a lifelong friend or a stranger she just decided to say hello to.

Most recognize Pauline for her unfailing faith in the Lord and her devotion to the church. She was a long time member of Deliverance Temple, a never ending student of the Gospel, and a true prayer warrior.

Pauline will be dearly missed by all those lucky enough to have known her.

The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm on Friday, January 17th at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary North, 1315 N MacArthur Blvd.

A Celebration of her Life will be 12:30pm, Saturday, January 18th at Life Church - Broadway & Britton located at 9001 N. Broadway Ext..

The family asks that you consider making a donation to your local church or your favorite charity.
