Obituary for Loretta Faye Cavett (Collinsworth)
Loretta was born on December 1, 1934 in Wheatland, Oklahoma to Nora Mae and Harry Collinsworth. She passed away on February 1, 2020, when she joined her beloved husband, Donald, who preceded her in death.
Loretta was raised in south Oklahoma City, graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1953 and then continuing her education at Central State College where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education.
She began her 3rd grade teaching career at Crooked Oak Elementary School in Oklahoma City and later at John Glenn Elementary, where she taught until her retirement in 1995.
Loretta and Don met in Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. She was devoted to her Church, where she continued as a member for 59 years. She particularly liked to sponsor the Church’s youth programs.
Don had a van in which they traveled whenever possible. In their travels, they would plan their routes to enable them to visit with relatives. Don’s family greatly enriched Loretta’s life and we are so grateful to them for always remembering her.
She formed lifelong friendships and she was blessed with an extremely large circle of close friends. Family and friends were Loretta’s greatest joy in life. The extended families of both she and Don are large, but she maintained contact with most of them as long as she was able. They visited her often and showered her with cards and photographs.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Lou Heath. She is survived by her brother, John Collinsworth and wife Diana, of Oklahoma City; nephew Bob Heath and wife Jill of Oklahoma City; nephew Scott Heath and wife Lore of San Diego; Nephew Stephen Heath and wife Wendy of San Francisco; great nieces Hannah Heath, Hayley Heath, Nora Heath and Vivian Heath; great nephews Parker Heath and Matthew heath and wife Krystina; and great-great nephew Everett Heath.
We would be remiss if we did not mention her “one vice” as she referred to it. She loved to play the slot machines. When life gave her limited mobility, that became her recreation and she was very, very lucky. But she always made it clear that she gave 10% of the big jackpots to her Church.
The Good Shepherd Hospice ministry was such a comfort to her and to the family in her final days and hours. Their kindness and caring touched us all deeply.
Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 P.M.
Her service will be held at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be with Donald at Eagle City, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Youth Ministry of First Baptist Church, 1201 N. Robinson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73103.
