Joy Viola Peachee Massey was born on May 23, 1917 to John Ira and Minnie Keck Peachee. She left this world July 21, 2020 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Joy was raised on the farm homesteaded by her grandfather John Keck during the 1889 Land Run. Educated in Moore Public Schools. Joy graduated as a member of the class of 1935. Upon graduation from Moore High School she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a long-distance operator. She told her family she was on the long-distance line because she was tall and could reach the top row of plugs. Joy continued to work for Southwestern Bell for 41 years until her retirement in 1976. She worked 22 years with perfect attendance.
On October 18, 1937 she wed Carl Massey. They were married for 48 years until Carl’s death on July 21, 1985. Joy passed away exactly 35 years to the day from her husband Carl. Joy has lived her entire adult life in Norman, Oklahoma.
Joy treasured her telephone company friends. Many of those friends met monthly for breakfast calling themselves the “Ding A Lings”.
Joy was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Carl, sister Mildred Janeway, Billie Ferrell, Edna Leiman and her brother Doyle Peachee. Joy is survived by sister Sharolyn Wilson (Leon), nieces Sharol Cottingham (David), Necy Pease (Damon), Marilyn McClanahan (Gary), Susan Humphries, and Melissa Briscoe (Mark). Nephews: Ed Scroggins (Sandy), B.D.Scroggins (Tracy), Edwin Wilson (Nancy).
