Dear Beverly & family, I want to extend my deepest sympathy in the loss of Carlyle. The Memorial Service yesterday in celebration of his life was a beautiful and touching service. Carlyle was my minister at the 1st Christian Church in Yukon when I was a teenager. I remember he and Lois & their 4 children well. Beverly, since one of my dearest friends was Marlene Kroutil, of course I knew all of the Kroutils growing up in Yukon. I was happy to know that you & Carlyle had married & started a new chapter of life together, lasting for 25 years. He has left a great legacy of a true servant of the Lord, his love for you, his family & all the children that he taught. He will be missed but not forgotten. Sincerely, Suzanne Dillow Parker

In the resurrection scheme of things, this has to happen: everything perishable taken off the shelves and replaced by the imperishable, this mortal replaced by the immortal. Then the saying will come true: Death swallowed by triumphant Life! Who got the last word, oh, Death? Oh, Death, who's afraid of you now? It was sin that made death so frightening and law-code guilt that gave sin its leverage, its destructive power. But now in a single victorious stroke of Life, all three—sin, guilt, death—are gone, the gift of our Master, Jesus Christ. Thank God!

Carlyle Yates is one of the most admired and respected persons we have been privileged to know over the course of our lives, such an upstanding and outstanding person who has positively impacted the lives of hundreds and even thousands over the course of his life ... through personal friendship, through his ministry and in his congregations, through his splendid and dedicated teaching of young people who were in his classes (our daughter being one), through his community involvements, and through the wonderful family he has left to the world through his three sons and daughter and the families that they in turn have created. Perhaps that it is the greatest legacy of all, the quality and character and basic goodness and compassion of one's children, and Carlyle must now feel a wonderful sense of fulfillment and confirmation in realizing that his special gift to the world is one of the very finest of all. I first met Carlyle Yates in 1978 at Hefner Junior High as Mr. Yates, a wonderful teacher of Oklahoma History and Civics. His classes were memorable for being dynamic, interesting, and fun -- not easy in junior high ! He inspired me to win a couple of awards in the subject, as I am sure he inspired so many of his students over the years. He was a truly a wonderful teacher. Later I also knew him as our family's neighbor---caring, always offering a kind word to the quartet of teenagers next door as we went through growing pains, first cars, catching up with us as we came and went from college, and then careers and families. He never failed to offer a cheery greeting and offer of help with whatever was going on, even when you could see he was busy. The world is a sadder place for his absence, but so much richer for the time he was here. He is missed.

our families have lived as next door neighbors for 36 years. Carlyle has always been there for us with his love as has Beverly his wife. My family joins me is our prayers for Beverly and all of you children and grandchildren that you will always remember Carlyle's love and kindness. He has gone to heaven to be with our Lord where he belongs.

Gaylen and Pam, what a joy Carlyle was to Gaylon. I do believe they roomed next door to each other for a reason. For Gaylon whose speech is failing rapidly and for Carlyle who continuously talked, they were a perfect match. I can't thank you enough for being so kind to Gaylon and will think of you when the Sooners play. Anyone reading Carlyle's obituary would know he truly is a man of God who served with all he had to give. Beverly, even though I didn't get to really know you, Gaylon expressed your friendship to him. One of the best of our family stories about 'Daddy'... When living in Coatsville, Indiana, in 1948, a terrible tornado nearly wiped out the town. My mother's description was that she saw Carlyle outside through the window with debris flying all around, and he rushed into the house, grabbed her, pushed her into a bathtub, and threw a mattress on top of them both just as a wall came down on them. They survived while 14 people nearby were killed. Dad's head was cut and bruised from the wall, but he quickly went around the neighborhood after the tornado had passed and administered first aid before others could arrive. He was written up in the paper afterward for having administered tourniquets which likely saved additional lives. Our entire family of today might not have existed, and perhaps other families as well, had ne not acted decisively to save our Mother and help others. He never spoke about this much himself.

To the Yates family: My parents Bob and Mary Frances (Smith) Copeland from Frederick, OK wanted me to send this note to you. We are saddened by your loss, and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. When my wife and I lived in OKC 25 years ago, we attended his church and he was so nice and gracious to us. Carlyle served the Frederick First Christian Church very well, and was a great friend to the Smith family. May God's peace be with you.
